On 15 December, Ambassador Luigi Narbone, Head of the European Union Delegation for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwaiti, Oman, Qatar and United Arab Emirates awarded the European Commission 2009 Chaillot Prize to Be-Free in a ceremony hosted by British Ambassador Jamie Bowden, at his residence.
The award ceremony took place in the presence of EU Ambassadors. The prize has been won by Be Free for its work on defending children's rights, prevention of child trafficking and abuse. This year's award to the Be Free is particularly significant in the context of the 20th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child.
The Be Free was nominated by the British Embassy, as a worthy contender for this prestigious prize.
The Chaillot Prize is the European Commission's annual award for individuals or organisations promoting human rights in the Gulf States and it was won this year by Bahrain's Be Free, for its work on children's safety online and developing effective strategies for dealing with online abuse.
Ambassador Luigi Narbone, Head of the European Union Delegation has also visited Be-Free before the ceremony and was briefed about the activities.
