Be-Free is working on a booklet for parents and caregivers of children with disability. Be-Free invites parents and caregivers to participate with their experiences and success stories with other caregivers, by e-mailing it to Be-Free, to be included in the booklet, and some will be put on the website too.
Sharing experiences helps in inspiring others and supporting them, and specially that many of the parents lead similar lives, if we can gain experience from each other, our lives hopefully, should be easier, and brighter. Be-Free is not expecting stories of great epic, just simple stories of real experiences, that can brighten a corner of the reader's life.
The booklet aims at helping caregivers in having a more Humanistic perspective about children with disability, rather than the traditional perspective that includes feelings of pity and sympathy, and that children with disability are a problem that needs to be solved. This perspective puts disability as the primary identity of the children, and their Humanistic traits and faculties are secondary. The risks of this perspective might not be obvious, but it creates a deep rooted problem for both the parents and the children. It shrinks the parents concentration on the special traits of the children of disability, and enlarges their concentration on the disability.
The booklet emphasizes on the importance of the Humanistic aspects as the main hub and perspective in looking and dealing with children with disability, and on which the next steps of building their characters and helping them are built. The booklet explains the role of this perspective in shaping a culture that affects parents, children, and the community.
Parents and caregivers can send their experiences and stories through
