Be-Free Program conducted a specialized training as requested by Dar Al Aman, Abused Women Shelter affiliated to the Ministry of Social Development. The specialized training workshop was for those who work with parents in domestic violence in order to help in protecting children and teens living in such environments. The training lasted for 3 days, attended by trainees from different organizations, including Dar Al Aman, Ministry of Social Development. Ministry of Education, related Societies, Child Protection Center, and police.
The interactive workshop discussed many topics and the focus in the first day was on the circle of violence and its effects on the personalities of children and teens on the long and short terms, and the reasons that lead to the increase of their vulnerability to abuses, and specially sexual abuse. The second day discussed the roles that children and teens might play in domestic violence and its reflection on their identities. On the third day, the training workshop tackled the personality and beliefs of the person who works with the parents, and their role in empowering and supporting parents to mitigate the negative reflections of domestic violence on children, with emphasis on the role of mother, as she is usually more subject to violence in an environment of domestic violence.
The trainers presented some of the problems and challenges they face while working with parents, children, and teens who live in an environment of domestic violence, and discussed the concepts and practical ways that they can work with the parents to minimize the damage it could cause to children and the possibilities of being subject to different types of abuse.
