Be-Free Program of Bahrain Women Association - for Human Development, conducted an event “Differences are beautiful” among the activities of “Watermelon” festival in Saar Mall. Be-Free utilized the “Watermelon” theme to train children on concepts related to the respect of others, and humanitarian interaction with them, through mini-workshops,
in which “Watermelon” with its diverse structure (a smooth hard green rind, and a juicy, red interior flesh, with many black seeds) played an important role in conveying these concepts. The children learned through the workshop “I respect the feelings of others” the concept of empathy and respect of others no matter how different they are from us, in the way they look, dress, or their thoughts.
Moreover, the children learned to find things that are common between them and others who are different through the mini- workshop “Between you and me a nice commonality”, and got trained through “I see the beautiful things in the other person” to start with the best in the other person, which will help in communicating and reaching a solution. The children enjoyed coloring, drawing, cutting and pasting in the workshops, and each received a copy of the story “We learn and have fun with our differences”.
