The Be-Free program of the Bahrain Women's Association for Human Development, in collaboration with the Sitra Social Center, presented over two weeks a series of training workshops on basic skills to protect against abuse. The training workshops for children were under the title "I am A Strong, Smart and Safe Child", where children are trained in a fun and interactive atmosphere away from intimidation, on different things like basic protection skills, concepts that enhance their humane values, and their confidence in their ability to behave smartly in difficult situations.
The program also introduced adolescent workshops on abusive relationships under the title "How to discover misguided relationships." For teenagers get abused in a different way than children; They often fall into abusive relationships in which they get blackmailed and faced with difficult options. During these workshops for adolescents, relationships and the role of modern technologies are discussed in a way so that adolescents themselves reach strategies to protect themselves.
The results of each group of adolescents vary according to the challenges that are important to them and thus they are discussed. One group has chosen truth and honesty as the criteria for their choices and actions. Any action, choice or relationship that conflicts with these two options calls for them to stop and rethink. The other group chose courage and clarity as key areas of their strategy to protect themselves.
Protection against abuse is one of the most important projects of the Be- Free program. It works with various governmental and non-governmental organizations to help protect as many children and adolescents as possible.
