Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Hassan Abdulla Fakhro, “Be Free” program of Bahrain Women Association for Human Development has participated with two Papers in the Conference “Childcare … Future of a Nation” organized by Bahrain Society for Child Development.
The first paper titled “Family Role in Improving the Socio- Cultural Environment to Enhance the Capabilities of Children with Disabilities” was presented by Ms. Dekrayat Sanad, a Special Education Specialist and a trainer at “Be Free” program. The paper covered the effective role played by the families to influence the society positively by correcting the prevailing negative perception towards children with disability. Moreover, replacing the erroneous beliefs and misconceptions that limits the productiveness of the persons' with disability. The paper also cited several Bahraini families and their success stories in overcoming obstacles with determination and fighting for their children to create opportunities to empower them.
The second Paper, presented by Dr. Rana Alsairafi, “Be Free” Program Manager, titled “Modern Media and the Formulation of Concepts for Children and Adolescence”. The paper explained the profound effect of modern social media on children and teenagers’ way of thinking, and the changing of some of their basic concepts, such as, friendship, success, charity, privacy and trust. The paper presented the aspects that distorted the concepts and suggested ways for correction.
“Be Free” program is keen to participate in related conferences and work with relevant parties to enhance its work and exchange experiences.
