“Be Free” Program, of Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development, organized an interactive symposium to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The symposium titled “Perspectives that Creates Human Identity for Persons with Disabilities”, aims at establishing a positive awareness towards People with Disabilities instead of a negative culture.
The symposium focused on presenting the perspectives that create and shape the disabled persons, to strengthen the human identity of the disabled person, such as the perspective of ability, responsibility and respect to replace the negative perceptions, such as the perspective of pity, pain, weakness, shame and social embarrassment.
The symposium hosted two inspiring models of mothers, Mrs. Faten Janahi, mother of Noura Zainal, and Mrs. Amina Al Miskeen, mother of Hasan Al-Rumaih. Each mother presented her experience with receiving a child with disability, and how they overcame personal and societal challenges to help them prosper.
The symposium included a short film of stories, showing clips from the life of Noura Zainal and clips of Hasan Al-Rumaih and his family, how their talents grew, and how they faced challenges with willpower, and determination.
It was concluded with discussion and Q&As.
