Be-Free Program of Bahrain Women Association – for Human Development – conducted a live interview through Instagram with Mrs. Yasmeen Al Qallaf, mother of an autistic child, member of the National Autistic Society in Britain, Autism Activist, and Founder of Al Faisal Universal Center. The live interview titled "Autism a Journey Into an Eternal Beauty”, was conducted by Mrs. Dekrayat Sanad, Special Education Specialist and Certified trainer at Be-Free program.
Al-Qallaf stressed the need for parents to realize that this journey, although it was long and tiring, but it is an interesting and beautiful journey, when parents stay positive and optimistic. She continued that the beauty of Autism lies in accepting the challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorder, whether at the level of communication or dealing with life matters, bearing in mind not to compare the autistic child with others.
In addition, Mrs. Al Qallaf clarified the importance of three things. Firstly, have faith in Almighty Allah. Secondly, seek knowledge that will elevate autistic child, and finally, avoid hearing discouraging words.
In conclusion, Mrs. Al Qallaf stated that the best gift parents and society could give to an autistic child is acceptance, unconditional love, and developing their talents.
